Lebanese critic: Sabah attempted suicide more than once

Lebanese critic Mohamed Hegazy, who was a close friend to deceased Lebanese singer and actress Sabah, has revealed that she attempted suicide more than once during her recent illness.

Hegazy claimed that Sabah had asked him personally to publicly announce the reaons behind her attempted suicide after her death.

She, however, failed to commit suicide because she was afraid of death, he told CBC Extra Channel on Wednesday evening.

Sabah was not suffering from any psychological or mental problems, Hegazy said, but she wanted to put an end to her life as she had been bedridden for three years due to her illness.

He mentioned that Sabah rejected recently watching TV or seeing her old films because she lamented the days of her youth.

Hegazy said Sabah felt no one cared or checked up on her during her illness except singer Fairouz, which frustrated the late icon of Arab music and cinema.

The late singer died on Wednesday morning in Beirut, her business manager, Joseph Gharib, told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

Born in 1927 as Jeanette Gergis Al-Feghaly, Sabah was recently chased with death rumors, but her facebook campaign denied the news. The latest rumor was 48 hours before her death.

Sabah starred in 83 Egyptian and Lebanese movies, 27 Lebanese plays and sang 3,000 songs. She married nine times, the latest was Lebanese artist Fady Lebnan.
