Local Development Minister Adel Labib said a data for street lamps in all governorates is being prepared to replace them with energy saving bulbs.
He said 1 million lampposts will be replaced as a first stage, including 143,000 in Qena, 127,500 in Aswan, 106,500 in Cairo, 74,700 in Gharbiya, 65,000 in Sharqiya, 52,000 in Assiut, 48,000 in Qaliubiya, 47,600 in Beni Suef, 42,500 in Giza, 42,800 in Beheira and 42,000 in the Red Sea governorate.
The move comes at a time where the Egyptian government has been working to reduce the load on electricity grid to reign in power outages, which peak during the summer.
