Egyptian lawyer Ashraf Nagy, who filed a case against a German international school in Cairo against obscenity charges said that he found a large volume on homosexuality containing pictures of same-sex couples.
Nagy filed a report with the Public Prosecutor in April, on behalf of a group of parents, against German international school in Cairo over teaching materials that reportedly “promote” homosexuality.
The lawyer said then that he was shocked to find materials teaching homosexuality in biology books for the sixth and ninth grades of primary school.
The school administration asked parents to tear up these pages, he said, and sign a declaration that these materials are present in the curriculum but not taught.
During an interview with the privately-owned satellite channel “al-Kahera Wal Nas (Cairo and the People)” on Friday, Nagy said: “I found a large volume about homosexuality that contains pictures of women with each other and men with each other, and this is taught to the sixth grade of primary school, besides the pages that teach sex in general.”
Regarding the responsibility of the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, the Director General of Special Education Walaa Shabana, said that “international schools are completely subject to the Ministry of Education,” noting that the ministry reviews all books.
