Lawyer held for allegedly possessing classified military information

The Armed Forces has arrested a lawyer who also owns a computer shop for allegedly possessing classified information on an army unit, a military source said Wednesday.

The suspect, Sherif Mostafa al-Housary, will face a military trial, the source added.

“Housary was interrogated on Wednesday by military prosecution for possessing a computer that has information on military units in an important devision,” the source said.

“It’s not allowed that the information be circulated," the source added, saying that spreading the information outside of the military was a criminal act and that the suspect should submit evidence refuting the allegations.

“In case it is proven that he has no relation to the information, a military court will clear him according to the law,” the source said.

A retired brigadier had earlier filed a report against Housary, claiming that the lawyer possessed military information.

Housary told military prosecutors that he works at a computer maintenance shop, which has been licensed for 10 years, and that his customers from the Armed Forces demand that he keep their personal information on his own computer while he fixes theirs.
