Lawyer Amr Abdel-Salam announced that he has called to cancel Rapper Travis Scott’s concert scheduled to be held on July 27 in the Sound and Light area of the pyramids, due to his association with Masonic rituals.
During a phone interview with the “Al-Hadath Al-Youm” satellite channel on Sunday evening, Abdel-Salam said that Egypt should not allow a Travis Scott concert to be held on its soil, as his last concert witnessed multiple deaths.
The Egyptian Syndicate of Musical Professions commented on speculations of cancelling Travis Scott’s concert.
The official spokesperson for the Syndicate of Musical Professions, Mohamed Abdullah, said that the Syndicate, for its part, grants singing permits to foreign singers after the approvals of the security authorities.
He added that Syndicate looks at the technical level of the concert’s organization, and will not consider his bias towards Freemasonry.
Abdullah stressed that the matter of holding the concert has become the responsibility of the security authorities, as the union is waiting for the security response with approval or rejection.
Security authorities are entrusted with granting approval to hold concerts of foreigners in Egypt, he explained, adding that the union has not received a request to hold a concert for Travis Scott so far.
Scott announced his support for the Afrocentric movement, which attributes the Egyptian civilization to black Africans.
Dozens of people died at Scott’s last concert in the US in 2021, which was described as one of the bloodiest concerts in the history of the US and prompted the families of the victims to file dozens of lawsuits against him.
Scott chose to have the launch party for his new album, “Utopia”, at the foot of the pyramids in Giza, Egypt, on July 28.
