Law Today publication launch event brings together influentials in law, commerce spheres

Over 50 leading businesspeople including partners and associates of Egypt’s most leading law firms have come together under one roof for the official launch event of the Law Todaypublication, in an effort to unfold its plans for future expansion within Egypt and throughout the MENA region.

With four members of the Egyptian legal profession as guest speakers at the Nile Ritz-Carlton hotel on the evening of 8 of November, the event was an ideal venue for high-profile figures of the legal industry to delve into issues pertinent to the sector, as well as cultivating connections with business executives interested in broadening their networks within the commercial law sphere.
The event was planned and organized by three of the magazine’s co-Founders: Khaled Radwan, Mohab Said and Mahmoud Shireen, as well as newly-appointed CEO Lucy Marx.
Law Today serves as a space that brings together a cross-section of experts from the legal industry: professionals from different sectors, private practice lawyers and in-house counsel, to give a well-rounded view of different industries” said Marx in her opening speech, providing an overview of the magazine’s accomplishments to date and outlining the plans for its growth.
Circulated amongst law firms and commercial enterprises in Cairo and Alexandria, Law Today has so far published three thematic issues, addressing Egypt’s oil and gas industry, financial markets and real estate.
With the publication of its upcoming food and beverage edition in mid-December, the magazine will issue 12,000 copies this year.
The First independent legal trade publication in the MENA region plans to boost its productivity in 2017 by publishing an issue every two months, as oppose to its current quarterly output, as well as to add more intriguing and different topics.
Rather than focusing on a single theme in every issue, upcoming editions of the magazine will comprise a range of thematic segments, starting in 2017.
Marx also pointed out that establishing a clientele base of Arab readers is among the publication’s aspirations in 2018 by introducing an Arabic language component.
Guest speakers Khaled el Shalakany (Shalakany Law Office), Sameh Khodeir (Zaki Hashem & Partners), Firas al Samad (Zulficar & Partners) and Tarek el Saied (Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank) all offered support for the newly launched publication in their speeches, which covered topics ranging from the intricacies of legal regulation and application to the challenges of finding and retaining talent within an organisation.
Emphasizing the value of such a publication and the role it could play in uniting key stakeholders from multiple industries around areas of common interest, the guest speakers encouraged attendees to show concrete support for Law Today by both contributing content and by offering feedback where possible.
They praised the entrepreneurial spirit of the team behind the publication by identifying a gap in the market between the law and business sectors and in establishing a means of effectively filling this gap.
Marx reiterated this message when she addressed the attendees: “We are here to work with you; we are here to collaborate with you; we are here to be a platform to showcase you and your achievements. But to do this, we also need you and your input.”
