The Tripartite Committee of the Renaissance Dam is meeting in Cairo on Saturday and Sunday for a “last chance” to resolve the differences between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, informed sources said.
The meeting will include the irrigation ministers from the three countries, as well as technical experts.
Egyptian Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazi met on Friday to prepare for Saturday’s meeting with his Ethiopian counterpart, Mutua Badasa, and the former Ethiopian irrigation minister, the latter whom was appointed presidential advisor for dams.
This is Badasa’s first official visit since taking office in October after a cabinet reshuffle.
The meeting aims to resolve the differences between the French and Dutch consulting firms, so as to proceed with and complete technical studies within 11 months, in line with the Declaration of Principles signed between the presidents of the three countries in March.
The Dutch firm says the conditions set by the Tripartite Committee and the French firm do not guarantee impartial studies.
