Last chance negotiations for ceasefire underway in Gaza as protests sweep the west

The Israeli government announced majority support for a new deal regarding the exchange of prisoners and detainees with Hamas movement and a truce proposed by Egypt, and have demanded its speedy implementation.

The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, hastened his visit to Tel Aviv to Tuesday instead of the weekend.

The AlQahera News Channel reported an Egyptian security official saying that there has been significant progress in bringing views closer to reaching a ceasefire Gaza Strip.

 

Hamas deliberates response

Sources in the Hamas movement told Al-Masry Al-Youm that it is currently reviewing the response to the proposal between the movement’s leaders abroad, its military leadership, and the five factions in Gaza.

The New York Times reported that the US Secretary of State will visit Tel Aviv this week to discuss the prisoner and detainee exchange deal, and Israel’s invasion of Rafah.

 

Protests take the western world by storm

Student protests demanding an end to the war on Gaza have swept universities in Europe and Australia, while students in the University of Sydney in Australia have set up pro-Palestine camps.

The International Court of Justice announced that it will issue a decision on Tuesday in a lawsuit filed by Nicaragua against Germany for violating the 1948 Genocide Convention by supplying Israel with weapons to bomb Gaza.
