Kuwait sends 1.25 million barrels of oil to Egypt

According to a Kuwaiti petroleum official, Kuwait has sent Egypt 1.25 million barrels of crude oil and 20,000 tons of diesel in conformance with the schedule agreed upon with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, reported Anadolu news agency.

In statements to the press on Wednesday, the source said that Kuwait is examining an Egyptian request to increase diesel shipments to 300,000 tons and crude oil to 5.5 million barrels, Anadolu reported.

A decision on Egypt's request is expected within days. Kuwait has carefully studied Egypt’s oil needs and is attempting to expedite the dispatch of the agreed upon shipments, the source added.

Kuwait had pledged to send Egypt urgent assistance totaling US$ 4 billion, of which one billion would be in the form of petroleum derivatives — 4.5 million oil barrels to be sent over three months at a rate of 50,000 barrels a day from July to September in addition to 200,000 tons of diesel to be sent within the same period.

Kuwait, Saudi Arabi and the UAE pledged to give Egypt financial assistance following the ouster of President Mohamed Morsy from power in July.
