Kuwait’s Criminal Court has sentenced a male citizen to 17 years in prison for physical assault of an Egyptian expatriate during work hours, at a motor repair shop in the industrial Shewaykh District.
Camera surveillance showed the Kuwaiti asking worker Wahid Mahmoud Refeai for a spare motorcycle part, while he was eating on break.
The man insisted on buying the spare part immediately, while Refeai asked him to wait until he finished his meal. The disgruntled customer then brutally assaulted Refeai to the ground, hitting him with a stick and kicking him in the head.
Following the incident, Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior reported that police arrested the attacker.
The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Egyptian Ambassador to Kuwait Tarek al-Kouni, contacted Refeai, deeming the attack “personal” and “unacceptable”.
The case dates back to December, when Social media users circulated a CCTV footage of the Kuwaiti’s brutal assault at a central marketplace in al-Shuwaikh.
