Kuwait Energy strikes 2 oil discoveries in Egypt

Kuwait–Kuwait Energy Company said it struck two new oil discoveries in Egypt's Western Desert, bringing the total to 11.

The oil discoveries were made in Shebl-1 and Shebl East-1 wells, the privately owned company said on Tuesday, with initial tests showing a combined production capacity of 2,100 barrels per day (bpd).

"Eleven discoveries in Egypt over a three-year period is very pleasing, and I'm looking forward to the results of our other 2011 exploration wells in Abu Sennan and Area A," said Chief Executive Sara Akbar in a statement.

Kuwait Energy has a 49.5 percent working interest in East Ras Qattara, which it acquired in March 2008, while Chile-based Enap Sipetrol owns 50.5 percent.
