The thursday's breakdown in Koraymat power station has caused power outages in Fayoum, Beni Suef and Minya, sparking anger among residents, who threatened to protest if power cuts continued to occur in the three governorates.
The Electricity Ministry said in a statement it was working on resolving the crisis.
The Ministry of Electricity has developed a plan in cooperation with the Ministry of Petroleum to eliminate power cuts, said Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker. He added the ministry plans to increase the power generation capacity by 3,632 megawatts by the end of August.
The minister pointed out that new electricity prices will be applied in 2015/2016, but that low-income citiens will be excluded from the price hikes.
