Khaled Saeed case: Lawyers demand policemen be tried by State Security court

Three lawyers have raised a lawsuit before the Administrative Court against a decision by both Prosecutor General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud and the advocate general of Alexandria to try the two policemen accused of killing Khaled Saeed at the criminal court. The lawyers are asking that the two be tried before the Emergency State Security Criminal Court instead.

The lawyers said that the torture and death of Khaled Saeed panicked Egyptians. They described the incident as terrorizing the public.

Plaintiffs believe that details of the investigations circulated by media outlets have damaged Egypt’s image abroad.

The lawyers also cited the numerous protests the case has inspired, against the police and the Ministry of Interior, as instigating domestic instability.
