Kenyan president attends court hearing in crimes against humanity case

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta appeared in the International Criminal Court on Wednesday for a hearing on the future of charges that he faces of co-orchestrating a wave of violence that swept Kenya six years ago.

Prosecutors accuse his government of withholding evidence and want an adjournment until they can strengthen their case.

Kenyatta becomes the first sitting head of state to answer a summons to the Hague-based court. His lawyers dismiss the charges, which relate to post-election violence in 2007 that killed 1,200 people and have called on judges to throw the case out.
