Flights will be resumed between Hurghada and Kazakhstan in May, according to the results of negotiations between Red Sea Governor Ahmed Abdallah and the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan will operate direct flights from Astana to Hurghada airport starting in May, and will start other flights from Shymkent to Hurghada in June, which is expected to lead to the influx of more Kazakh tourists to the Red Sea and other governorates, according to Abdallah.
Besides the flight resumption, the two officials also discussed cooperation in the fields of environment, culture, among others, Abdallah added.
Abdallah pointed out that his meeting with the minister focused mainly on increasing the number of Kazakh tourists to the governorate.
Meanwhile, Egyptian aviation officials will hold a meeting with Russian counterparts in May to discuss the return of Russian flights to Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada after a two-and-a-half-year flight suspension, revealed Minister of Civil Aviation Sharif Fathi on the sidelines of the Aviation Africa 2018 Conference in Cairo.
On April 11, Russia’s largest airliner Aeroflot resumed flights to Cairo after a flight suspension which had been in place since November 2015, implemented in the wake of the downing of a Russian plane over the Sinai Peninsula in a suspected terrorist attack which killed 224 people on board. Other European and Asian countries suspended flights to Egypt following the incident, including Kazakhstan.
According to Russian state media outlet Russia Today, at least three million tourists are expected to visit Egypt following Russia’s decision to lift a ban on direct flights to Cairo.
