In a formal letter, the Justice Ministry’s international cooperation department addressed Qatari authorities requesting the arrest and extradition of Assem Abdel Maged, head of Jamaa al-Islamiya, to stand trial at a criminal court in Egypt.
Maged, along with other Islamist figures, are accused of allegedly inciting violence in the months following the ouster of toppled President Mohamed Morsy in July.
A ministry source said that Egypt's foreign ministry sent the request and is following up on the matter.
