The Judges Club will hold a special general assembly session Thursday to discuss the judiciary's status in the first draft of the new constitution, as well as the role of the Public Prosecution.
Judges Club head Ahmed al-Zend had called for the meeting, and thousands of judges and members of the prosecution are expected to participate.
Zend had earlier described the constitution draft's chapter on the judiciary as “ a shocking and disappointing surprise” and added that it lacks guarantees for the independence of the judiciary.
He also said the role of the Public Prosecution is ambiguous in the draft constitution, and other judges and members of the Public Prosecution said that it only gives the body the power to file charges, while stripping it of its most important power of investigation.
