The Suez Criminal Court judge presiding over the trial of 14 defendants accused of killing protesters during the revolution said in court that the victims were mostly ex-convicts.
The judge said criminal records released by an Interior Ministry division showed that most of the 18 killed and around 300 injured had been jailed for drug dealing or armed robbery, but did not provide specifics to back up his claim.
The trial was adjourned until 2 November.
Defense lawyers have said the accused fired in self-defense as protesters attempted to storm police stations in the city.
The defendants are 10 police officers, including the Suez security director, a businessman and his three sons.
