Journalists Syndicate member snubs Public Prosecution

Journalists Syndicate Undersecretary Gamal Fahmy said he would not appear before the Public Prosecution to be interrogated over complaints he insulted the president.

Fahmy said in a press conference held Tuesday that he sent a letter to the Cairo Appeals Prosecution, saying his refusal is due the recent arrest warrant issued for five activists charged with inciting violence during clashes near the Moqattam Muslim Brotherhood headquarters.

He is now uncertain whether Prosecutor Talaat Abdullah is politically neutral.

Fahmy added although the syndicate has filed claims demanding an investigation into attacks on journalists in recent weeks, the Public Prosecution has ignored the cases.

Fahmy stressed that he has respect for prosecutors, but added that he believes President Mohamed Morsy illegally dismissed the previous prosecutor general in favor of appointing Abdullah.
