Journalists Syndicate: Al-Shorouk’s problems resolved

The Egyptian Journalists Syndicate said on Wednesday that it has resolved the problem between al-Shorouk newspaper’s administration and its online journalists.

Khaled al-Balshy, a member of the Journalists Syndicate council, said al-Shorouk Chairman Ibrahim al-Moallem has responded to the demands of his journalists following a meeting that lasted several hours.

Balshy said that it was agreed to that all reporters who had been arbitrarily dismissed would return to work except for one who will be investigated for insulting the administration. In addition, a committee led by Wael Gamal, a journalist with the paper, will examine new appointments made by the online paper.

Journalists running al-Shorouk's online portal had gone on strike after the administration had failed to satisfy their demands, which included tenure, better pay, and the reinstatement of their colleagues who had been arbitrarily dismissed.
