The Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday said Jordanian authorities arrested 16 Egyptians attempting to enter Syria illegally.
Mohamed Abdel Hakam, assistant to the Foreign Minister for consular affairs and Egyptians abroad, said the Egyptian embassy in Amman has intervened and Jordanian authorities have agreed to deport the Egyptians to Egypt rather than referring them to trial.
The Egyptians were all employed in Jordan.
Abdel Hakam reiterated the importance of respecting the laws of host countries and entering through legal channels.
