Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population signed a cooperation agreement with Japan to provide hospitals in Egypt with five electric generators and 12 CT scanners in order to support the Egyptian government’s efforts in managing the COVID-19 pandemic.
This came during a meeting between Health Minister Hala Zayed and Japanese Ambassador Noke Masaki to discuss cooperation to tackle the pandemic.
A statement by the Ministry of Health and Population said that the Assistant Minister of Health and Population for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Wael al-Saei, signed the agreement on the Egyptian side alongside the Second Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Cairo.
Zayed thanked the Japanese government for supporting Egypt’s health sector and praised the ties their countries share.
The meeting also discussed sending experts from Japan to train medical teams in hospitals on CT scan devices and exchanging experiences with Egypt.
The statement added that the meeting involved Egyptian state’s plan to produce coronavirus vaccines, in addition to the importance of a diversity of vaccine sources.
Japan’s support to Egypt to provide coronavirus vaccines through the Covax facility were also discussed.
The Japanese ambassador expressed his country’s full readiness to support Egypt’s health sector during the coronavirus pandemic, and praised Egypt’s system to provide the vaccines which includes the registration of non-Egyptian residents.
He also affirmed the provision of all means of support to finance preserving vaccines in Egypt through UNICEF, pointing out that medical teams will continue to be trained in hospitals through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and assistance is provided through international organizations.
