Jama’a al-Islamiya’s Building and Development Party will be coordinating with the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party in the upcoming parliamentary elections, said Jama'a al-Islamiya’s Building and Development Party Chairman Nasr Abdel Salam. He pointed out that efforts to create a political party for the group were underway.
In a statement to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Abdel Salam said the group will coordinate with all Islamic and non-Islamic parties, especially the Tagammu Party and the liberal and leftist parties, as long as it was in the best interest of Egypt.
He also said the group decided to separate its political activities from its religious activities.
He added that the group hopes to win the greatest number of seats in upcoming parliamentary elections.
“We haven’t decided on the number [of seats we’ll run for], but most of our candidates come from Upper Egypt, and we’ll coordinate with all political and Islamic parties and movements,” he said.
