Jama’a al-Islamiya accuses revolutionaries of causing disorder in Egypt

The Jama'a al-Islamiya on Thursday accused all revolutionaries of carrying out the plans of the remnants of the dissolved ruling party and the supporters of ousted President Hosni Mubarak to spread chaos and disorder in the country.

The group’s Shura Council said in a statement that the revolutionaries are clearly involved in schemes that aim to drive a wedge between the people and the security services each time the country takes a step in the right direction.

The group also denounced the clashes that took place in Tahrir Square on Tuesday and Wednesday.

After the uprising that toppled Mubarak in February, the group became publicly active but continues to be dogged by internal differences over its working method.

The group engaged in armed confrontations with Mubarak’s regime in the 1990s in attempts to topple him and establish an Islamic state.

However, a few years ago, group leaders reviewed their position and gave up armed jihad. They also apologized for the attacks they had organized in which hundreds of policemen and Coptic Christians had died.

Observers say the group was absent from the demonstrations that swept across Egypt and overthrew Mubarak at the start of the year. Today, it announced that it would form a political party and work on applying the Islamic Sharia to all state matters.
