Jama'a al-Islamiya criticized Egypt's media on Thursday, claiming outlets inaccurately reported statements by the Islamist group's leader, Aboud al-Zomor.
Meida outlets circulated a statement by Zomor saying that Jama'a al-Islamiya does not consider 30 June a coup.
Jama'a al-Islamiya considers what happened after 30 June a military coup against the Egyptian Constitution and the 2012 elections, the group claimed in a statement.
Zomor told the Daily Beast Wednesday that the armed forces carried out the coup for fear of a division in the state.
The statement stressed that the group would continue peaceful protests until a political solution to reinstate constitutional legitimacy is reached in order to distance the military from politics.
Zomor mentioned in remarks to the Daily Beast that the possibility of reaching a compromise between the military and the Muslim Brotherhood was expected after Eid al-Adha as both parties realized that neither of them could break the other.
"Islamists have become more flexible in dealing with the current issues," Zomor mentioned.
The armed forces took many steps in good will as they wanted to avoid division and civil war, Zomor added.
Egypt needs a pluralistic democratic system of governance, Zomor said, pointing out that he rejected armed rebellion against the army.
