Alaa Abouel Nasr, secretary general of the Construction and Development Party, criticized the army invasion of the town Kerdasa in Giza. The Construction and Development Party functions as the political arm of the Jama'a al-Islamiya.
He described the security operations in the town as “messages from the army and the police to the areas most opposed to the coup.” He added that security started with Delga village in Minya and that the village Kerdasa was next. He said that the village of Nahiya, also in Giza, would follow.
Abouel Nasr told Al-Masry al-Youm that the invasion of Kerdasa had nothing to do with arresting the al-Zomor family.
He added that “the current regime thinks it can calm the country with such operations,” which he described as “criminal.” In his opinion, these operations would only add to the intensity of the situation. He said that “the more the restrictions are increased on freedoms, the more things would get difficult.”
Mohamed Hassan, spokesperson of the party, denied the involvement of Jama'a al-Islamiya Shurah council members Assem Abdel Magued and Tarek Al-Zomor in Kerdasa prior to the army invasion when the police department had been stormed and 11 officers tortured to death.
He questioned whether arresting these two figures required all these security operations when the authorities knew for sure they were not in the towns that had been raided by the police.
