“I’ve been longing to see Egypt..I love Egyptian food “: Miss Universe 2016

During her first visit to Egypt, Miss Universe 2016, Iris Mittenaere, exclaimed “Long live Egypt, Long live Egypt” in Arabic to express her love for Egypt and Egyptian people.

“I have been longing to see Egypt since I was a child,” Mittenaere said after she arrived at Cairo airport, on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old French model and beauty pageant titleholder expressed her admiration of the Egyptian civilization and Egyptian food. She came to the country to encourage tourism and offer practical educational programs for children in Luxor.

Mittenaere explained that she learned about Egyptian history from her father, a history teacher, who used to bring to her books of Pharaonic history and the hieroglyphic language.

The former Miss Universe now works with Smile Train, an international organization that provides surgeries for children with cleft lips and palates in underdeveloped countries.

She graduated from lycée with a degree in science. After graduating, she moved back to Lille, where she attended Lille 2 University of Health and Law, studying dentistry. Mittenaere plans on becoming a dental surgeon after graduation.
