Italy will build 10 horizontal silos for the storage of wheat, with a capacity of about half a million tons per year, at a cost of US$16.5 million, Minister of Supply Khaled Hanafy said on Thursday.
The construction of silos will be concluded within two years, as a first phase of the debt swap agreement signed between Egypt and Italy, at $45 million.
The minister added he had agreed with the Italian side on the implementation of the second phase of the project by constructing a large silo to store wheat and two logistic areas for the storage of grain, vegetables, and fruits, aimed at reducing the transportation costs, and thus reducing the price of the crops.
