Israeli spy suspect interrogated for the 8th time

Ilan Grapel, the Israeli officer suspected of espionage, underwent his eighth official session of interogation on Tuesday.

A judicial source said that an Egyptian lawyer has been accompanying Grapel since the start of the interrogations, and that investigators did not appoint a translator as Grapel speaks Arabic fluently.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said that the suspect was constantly present in Tahrir Square, especially during the Friday demonstrations, and met with journalists and asked them to help him in covering events.

Arriving in Cairo on 28 January with an American passport, Grapel told airport officials he was a reporter. He then went with other reporters to a three-star downtown hotel, where they all stayed in one room, as the place was packed. The hotel manager suggested another hotel for them, but he insisted on staying there as it overlooked the square.
