Israeli security forces on high alert ahead of Land Day

Israel put its security forces on high alert along its borders and in the West Bank on Thursday, in anticipation of Land Day on Friday.
Palestinians celebrate Land Day on 30 March as a day of national struggle to commemorate protests in 1976 against Israeli confiscation of Arab land.
 
Israel Radio reported on Thursday that the army had declared a state of alert along the border with Lebanon, Jordan and the Gaza Strip as well as in the West Bank to prepare for potential emergencies during the celebrations.

Israeli Police forces said they were not excluding the possibility of unrest given recent protests that have swept through the Middle East.
 
Israel also mobilized its troops ahead of a "Million Man March" on Jerusalem planned for Friday, in which thousands of people from around the world are expected to participate with the aim of  breaching the Israeli border.
 
Israeli radio said the Internet has become a major center of information for the Israeli police and that the Israel Defense Forces will increase its security presence particularly along the Syrian and Lebanese borders.
