The Israeli Foreign Ministry on Monday denied any knowledge of an Israeli officer's arrest in Cairo.
Egyptian authorities on Sunday announced the detention of IIan Grapel, an Israeli Mossad officer, for 15 days pending an investigation into charges of espionage.
Israeli media reports cited an Israeli Foreign Ministry official as saying the ministry "has no knowledge of the news" and is following up on the issue after it was reported by several media outlets.
The arrested officer attempted to collect information from Egyptians regarding the security, political, economic and social conditions in the country after the 25 January revolution, security sources have alleged.
