Israel’s forces on Monday have penetrated the city of al-Baath in Quneitra, southern Syria and advanced with tanks towards several government facilities, including the Supply Directorate, the Real Estate Bank, and the Automated Bakery, under the pretext of conducting inspections.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that Israel’s forces expelled Syrian employees from government buildings and their offices without providing clear reasons, and prevented them from returning.
The Israeli forces then entered the villages of Jamla, al-Shajara, Beit Qara, Koya, Maariyah, and Saida in the western countryside of Daraa and conducted house searches before leaving, and stationed themselves in the villages adjacent to the border strip in Quneitra and Mount Hermon.
The Syrian Observatory said that a US cargo plane landed at the “Kharab al-Jir” base, located in the countryside of Rmelan, loaded with military and logistical equipment, in addition to American soldiers, in a move that strengthens the American military presence in the region.
Syria’s new government takes form
The National Conference of Syrian Forces is scheduled to be held during January 4-5, and will witness the announcement of the dissolution of the People’s Council and all armed factions, including Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.
It is planned to invite 1,200 Syrian figures from inside and outside the country, in addition to 70 to 100 people from each governorate.
The conference will result in the formation of a committee to draft the new constitution and ideas for forming the new government.
The new Syrian authorities said on Monday that they had accepted an invitation to visit Saudi Arabia, making the kingdom the first Arab country to receive the new administration.
The Syrian caretaker Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Sheibani, stated in a tweet on the X platform: “I received an official invitation from the Saudi Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, to visit the Kingdom. I accept this invitation with love and pleasure, and I am honored to represent my country on my first official visit, and we look forward to building strategic relations with our brothers in the Kingdom in all fields.”
In addition, the new administration in Syria announced on Monday the appointment of Maysaa Sabreen as the governor of the Central Bank of Syria – the first woman to ever hold such a high position in the history of the Syrian financial institution, according to Reuters.
