Israel is not allowed in Cairo Film Festival, says organizer

Organizer of the Cairo International Film Festival, Ezzat Abu Auf has said that he will not allow Israel to participate.

"I will not allow Israel to intrude into the festival even if I have to sleep on the doorstep to keep them out," Abu Auf told reporters on Thursday evening,

Despite signing the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty in 1979, Egypt remains wary of Israeli participation in Egyptian festivals and cultural events.

The 34th Cairo International Film Festival is scheduled to open on 30 November and will last for nine days, with the participation of 70 different countries. Sixteen films will compete for the festival’s grand prize, including the Egyptian film, "Al-Shouq."
