Israel to deploy high-tech sensors to monitor Sinai border

Israel plans to deploy high-tech sensors along its Sinai border with Egypt in order to monitor a 3km strip of land running deep into the Sinai peninsula, according to a report in Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.

Israeli intelligence will be able to monitor activity in Sinai with the hundreds of sensors, as well as monitoring and tracking devices, which are to be deployed over three months along the 220km Egypt-Israel border, the report continued. The sensors will be deployed by either the Israeli military's reconnaissance unit or Field Intelligence Corps.

The sensors are part of a spy network central to a high-tech intelligence and monitoring system developed by Israel, the Israeli newspaper said. The new system is expected to be operational by January of next year.
