The Israeli army, through its spokesperson Avichay Adraee officially confirmed in a statement on Tuesday evening the assassination of the head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, Hashem Safieddine.
On October 8, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously announced the assassination of Safieddine, a Hezbollah leader who was a candidate to succeed Hassan Nasrallah as the Secretary-General of the party.
Addressing the Israelis on the anniversary of the October 7 attack, Netanyahu said that Israel was forced to fight a fateful battle against Hamas, which carried out a difficult attack on it a year ago.
In his speech published by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office on the X platform, Netanyahu added: “The memory of our fallen citizens will remain immortal in our hearts forever.”
Netanyahu pledged to continue fighting Hamas until achieving the goals of the war that broke out a year ago in Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu said, in a recorded speech: “We will continue fighting. As long as the captives remain in Gaza, I will not surrender.”
Netanyahu claimed that Hamas killed and raped a number of Israeli citizens during its attack on October 7th.
Hamas has denied these accusations since the first moment, and published evidence on its Telegram channels confirming the falsity of Israel’s narrative.
