Islamists accused of electoral violations

A number of political parties and independent candidates filed complaints against the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party and the Salafi Nour Party, accusing them of breaking the law in parliamentary elections.

They said they employed religious slogans in their campaigning and rigged certain ballots.

A polling station in the Qobba district expelled a Freedom and Justice Party candidate for campaigning inside the station in violation of the rules.

The elections operation room received a complaint from a judge supervising Helwan polling station against a Freedom and Justice Party candidate. The candidate is reported to have requested that votes for Salafi Nour Party be transferred to his party.

In the Zaher district, five veiled women voted with IDs belonging to other women.

“I wish we had a female supervisor in each station to check the veiled voters,” said Abdel Moez Ibrahim, head of the high elections committee.
