Hundreds of Islamists gathered in Ramses Square downtown after Friday prayers to demand Egypt be governed as an Islamic state.
Jama'a al-Islamiya spokesman Asem Abdel Maged said Islamists refuse the postponement of parliamentary elections and a supra-constitutional principles document, which the ruling military council has pledged to create as a framework for drafting the new constitution.
Protesters chanted "Islamic, Islamic" and "No to Secularism.” They also deprecated Tahrir Square demonstrations and secular political forces, since, according to the Islamists, these groups harm the economy.
