Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Hesham Mohamed Qandil left Cairo Wednesday for a brief visit to Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, where he will meet with his counterpart before heading to South Sudan.
Qandil will meet Sudanese Irrigation Minister Salah Eddin Youssef to discuss ways to boost cooperation in irrigation and agriculture, then leave for Juba in South Sudan to meet his counterpart there, Paul Mayom Akec.
In South Sudan, Qandil will open a workshop for reviewing feasibility studies of constructing a dam on the river that passes through the city of Wau.
Qandil will also inspect joint water resources and irrigation projects that are carried out through an Egyptian grant of US$26.6 million.
The minister will meet with several officials and ministers in South Sudan to discuss joint cooperation among the two countries in the same fields.
