Irrigation minister lauds reuse of agricultural wastewater

With its Mahsama water treatment plant and Sarabium Siphon, Egypt has made a quantum leap in reusing agricultural wastewater, said Irrigation Minister Hany Sweilam.
This project was the starter of bigger ventures in the same field, Sweilam said in a statement to mark the fourth anniversary of the inauguration of the Mahsama agricultural drainage treatment, recycling and reuse plant in Ismailia.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi officially inaugurated the plant on April 22, 2020.
The multiple recycling of wastewater secures about 21 billion cubic meters of reused water annually, the minister explained.
He also touched upon other mega projects to treat agricultural wastewater that add 4.8 billion cubic meters of reused water every year. This brings the total amount of reused water to some 26 billion cubic meters yearly, Sweilam noted.
