The investigation on an Italian tourist accused of killing a hotel building site supervisor in Marsa Alam will resume on Saturday, after it was postponed last week, awaiting an Italian translator.
Ivan Pascal Moro was detained last week for allegedly beating Tarik Ahmed Abdel Hamidin to death, at the Red Sea resort of Marsa Alam last Saturday.
Hamidin died after involvement in a scuffle on Thursday, when he warned Moro not to enter a restricted construction area, the Tourism Ministry statement said on Friday.
Red Sea General Prosecutor, Sherif Tawfik, allowed the honorary Italian consul in Hurghada, Alberto Barattini, and the lawyer of the Italian embassy to visit the Italian citizen on Wednesday.
According to Al-Masry Al-Youm, the prosecution allowed them to only read the investigation and refused to let them take a copy the document. He also briefed Barattini on the updates of the case.
The Tourism Ministry stated that Moro confessed to the death of Hamidin.
An Egyptian tourism official based in Italy traveled to Marsa Alam to take charge of Moro’s children, ages 6 and 15, and fly them back to Italy.
The engineer’s body was transferred to a hospital morgue in Marsa Alam.
