Prosecutors on Sunday began investigations into the circumstances of a fire that erupted in a subway signal control room on Saturday.
Preliminary inspections revealed that the fire had originated in the low-voltage cables that supply the room’s generators.
Prosecutors also formed a fact-finding committee to assess the damage caused by the blaze and determine whether it had been caused by mechanical failure or human error.
Ever since the fire, Cairo’s subway system has been controlled manually, resulting in numerous delays.
