Investigation into Alex drowning case suspended

Prosecutors suspended investigation into the case of a young man’s drowning in Alexandria.

The sister of the deceased accused the police of torturing her brother and throwing him in a canal. However, the forensic report did not detect physical signs of violence.

Ahmed Shaaban al-Sayed, the deceased, along with an accomplice, Farrag Labib, were reported on 7 November to have snatched a handbag from a woman before fleeing on a motorbike. Passersby chased them and managed to catch Labib. Al-Sayed succeeded to escape.

While investigating Labib, the police were notified that a drowned body was discovered in the Mahmoudiya Canal. The body turned out to be that of Al-Sayed.
