Interior Ministry warns of expected violence at Cairo University

The Interior Ministry contacted Cairo University to warn of expected protests on campus at noon Sunday.

The protests, the ministry said on its official Facebook page, would gather protesters from outside areas, to march outside the university.

The ministry claims the protesters coming from outside areas were bringing firearms, shotguns and Molotov cocktails.

The Interior Ministry warns against any practices violating the law that might threaten the lives of peaceful citizens or impede the movement of pedestrians and public transport, and warns of attacks on public and private property, the statement added.

Any violations will be confronted according to the law, the statement said.

Students supporting toppled President Mohamed Morsy have been organizing protests since last September in universities, during which clashes with the security forces took place, leading to the death of many students.

In November, Mohamed Reda, an engineering student, was killed on campus. Government officials claimed he was killed by fellow Brotherhood demonstrators as an autopsy revealed the bullets in his body did not match those used by security forces.
