Following the earlier appearance of Chinese mail-order brides and made-in-China hymen on the local market, the Interior Ministry is now warning Egyptian consumers about the dangers posed by Chinese-manufactured disappearing ink.
According to a new ministry report, Chinese pens containing this type of ink look like ordinary pens but the ink has a stronger-than-usual odor. While these pens can write on paper, glass or plastic surfaces, the report notes, the written ink tends to vanish several hours after use.
The ministry warned against the use of these pens for making bank transactions in particular, or for signing checks or official contracts. It also noted that the ink in question could be detected with the use of infrared rays.
The report goes on to suggest that the ink was most likely not imported in bulk, but was rather brought into the country by individual travelers.
