Interior Ministry ready to secure referendum with Armed Forces

Interior Ministry announced its readiness to secure the referendum on the constitution, scheduled on the next 14 and 15 January, after Interim President Adly Mansour has called citizens for a referendum in a statement on Saturday, said Assistant Interior Minister Ahmed Helmy.

The ministry has put up a security plan, in coordination with the armed forces, aiming for maximum security presence to halt any attempt to interfere in the event.

All vacations and breaks among security officers and members shall be suspended to make use of the maximum force, distributing them over 13,100 sub-committees around the country.

Helmy noted that the role of the police during the referendum will be limited to securing the committees headquarters at the outside only, in addition to offering help to the elderly and people with special needs to enter polling stations.

He stressed that “police officers and recruits are not to enter to the committees or polling stations unless called by the judge running the committee.”
