Unknown attackers on a motorbike shot dead an officer working for the National Security Agency in Sharqiya's city of Zagazig at 4pm, the Interior Ministry's media office announced on Saturday.
The attackers had managed to flee, the statement said.
A security source said Mohamed Eid sustained several gunshots and was taken to hospital but died of injuries.
Investigators said Eid was shot on his way home from work.
