Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim formed a committee to investigate officers who appeared in a video abusing the body of a dead citizen, said Major General Mahmoud Youssry, security chief of Qalyubia governorate, stressing the ministry will not accept breaking legal legitimacy or rules of Islam.
In a phone call with Sada al-Balad TV, Youssry said on Wednesday that the identities of the suspects have been recognized and they will be referred to prosecution.
The dead citizen, called Mohamed Sultan, had a criminal record for robbery. He escaped from police station after being accused of killing a doctor and stealing his car. He was involved in three robbery cases in Qalyubia.
“While arresting him, he started shooting at police. He was injured and transferred to the hospital, but he passed away before receiving treatment,” Youssry added.
Facebook users posted on Wednesday photos of an unknown body surrounded by several unidentified persons. The place where the video was filmed was unclear. Blood and some stitches were seen on the body.
One of the persons was kidding with another saying, “Let me take a photo for you with him. One photo for LE2.” Another one said, “Take a photo for me while I am putting the cigarette in his [the dead person] mouth.”
