The Interior Ministry has announced the details of its plan to secure the retrial of former President Hosni Mubarak, his sons Gamal and Alaa, former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and six of his aides. The trial is due to start Saturday morning at the Police Academy in the Fifth Settlement, New Cairo.
The defedants are being retried for their responsibility in the killing of protesters during the 25 January revolution.
Three thousand soldiers and police officers will be deployed to secure the court, in addition to 150 armored vehicles, said Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim.
Armed Forces personnel would transport Mubarak from the military hospital to the court in a helicopter after a doctor has verified that he is fit to travel. The army would also guard the convoy transporting Gamal, Alaa and Adly to the court from Tora Prison, said security sources.
As Adly’s six aides are not currently in detention, they will arrange for their own transportation to the court house, the sources added.
The ministry also plans to strategically place detectives around the academy’s walls to prevent thugs from approaching the area. Police will divert traffic to keep the roads clear for the transport of the defendants to the court house.
Major General Osama al-Sagheer, assistant interior minister for public security, told Al-Masry Al-Youm the security plan would be put into action starting at 6 am on Saturday morning.
The defendants, lawyers, and martyrs families would enter the court complex through Gate 8, he added.
