Interior Ministry allows ‘young inventor’ to represent Egypt in the United States

Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim said in a press conference on Monday that the ministry is allowing Abdallah Assim, known as the “young inventor” to go to the United States and participate in the Intel Global Challenge contest.

“His travel ban has been lifted,” he added.

Police had ordered Assim’s arrest on charges of illegally protesting and burning two police cars in Assiut. Assim explained to reporters he was merely walking through a pro-Morsy demonstration with his science equipment when he was arrested in the Bab el-Louk district on 24 April in Cairo.

Assim, who already left on Sunday for the United States via London, thanked the ministry and promised to turn himself in upon his return.

He had been knocking the doors of security and judicial authorities for 24 hours to know why he was banned from traveling.
