Interior Minister’s test reveals emergency police failures

Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim was reportedly disappointed after asking monitors to visit emergency police departments and submit mock incident reports to test their speed of response.

Sources close to Ibrahim told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the minister called the Cairo emergency police himself and reported a fake incident to test the competence and speed of service. The minister found the result unsatisfactory.

The minister asked monitoring committees to question any official from the police or the Chamber of Operations who was proven to have been
negligent in handling the incidents.

Major General Marwan Mostafa, official spokesperson for the ministry, gave instructions to police to speedily process and respond to citizens' reports, particularly as some reports are never answered.

The Ministry of Interior had received several complaints from citizens stating that police emergency numbers are out of order and that their requests for help are not answered.
